Making Medication Use Safer in Small Hospitals with No Resources

This one hour webinar will focus on strategies for safety particularly applicable to small hospitals (less than 100 beds). Participants will learn:
  1. The basic principles of Medication Safety;
  2. How to identify local system vulnerabilities; and
  3. Practical strategies you can start today.

Julie joined ISMP Canada in 2004 to complete the first Canadian Fellowship in Safe Medication Management and is now Project Leader for Analysis and Consultation Projects. Since joining ISMP Canada, Julie has assisted with several hospital medication system reviews and root cause analyses of sentinel medication incidents. Julie is a co-author of the Canadian Root Cause Analysis Framework, as well as a number of medication safety-related articles published in Canada. Julie has provided training and facilitation for root cause analysis and failure mode and effects analysis in a variety of health care settings across Canada.

Julie has more than 25 years of experience in pharmacy practice, in both clinical and administrative roles. She has worked in community and hospital pharmacy settings, with the majority of her career spent in small community hospitals. Prior to joining ISMP Canada, Julie was Manager, Pharmacy for the North Simcoe Hospital Alliance in Midland/ Penetanguishene, Ontario, and continues to practice there as a staff pharmacist on an occasional basis. Initiatives as a pharmacy manager included implementation of the pharmacy module of a new hospital-wide information system, initiation of pharmacy-based IV admixture and development of the hospital's medication safety program.
