Sharing Learning from Novel Medication Safety Improvement Projects:
Rapid-Fire Presentations

This one hour webinar will consist of four separate rapid-fire presentations from different settings. Each presentation will focus on sharing the learning from a creative medication safety improvement project.

The four presentations are:

  • Medication Safety Vests: An Innovative Strategy to Minimize Medication Errors - Karimah Alidina and Julie Dawson, from Joseph Brandt Memorial Hospital in Burlington, Ontario.
  • Safe Syringe Medication Administration: British Columbia Ambulance Service - Katie P.C. McTaggart from the Emergency and Health Services Commission in Victoria, British Columbia.
  • Standardization of Infusion Pumps - Garth Vatkin from Interior Health in British Columbia.
  • The Opioid Task Force - Sandra Knowles and Trevor Hall from Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in Toronto, Ontario.

Learning Objective:

  • Share in the learning from novel medication safety improvement projects in a variety of healthcare sectors.

Audience: Quality and Patient Safety staff, nurses, pharmacists, physicians, Emergency Medical Services staff, risk managers and all healthcare professionals interested in improving medication safety.

Presenters

Karimah Alidina is a Professional Practice Educator in the Rehabilitation, Complex Care, and Transitional Care units at Joseph Brant Memorial Hospital in Burlington, Ontario. Julie Dawson recently retired from Joseph Brant Memorial Hospital where she worked in the capacity of nursing manager for Rehab, Complex Care, and Transitional Care units.

Katie P.C. McTaggart is a Leader in Patient Safety, Quality & Accreditation at the Emergency & Health Services Commission in British Columbia.

Garth Vatkin is a Clinical Information Specialist in Pharmacy Services at Interior Health in British Columbia.

Sandra Knowles is a Drug Safety Pharmacist at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. Trevor Hall is a Patient Safety Specialist and Emergency Preparedness leader in the Quality & Patient Safety Department at Sunnybrook Health Sciences in Toronto, Ontario.
