The Institute for Safe Medication Practices Canada (ISMP Canada) is seeking a motivated individual who desires to make a difference in patient safety, particularly as it relates to labelling and packaging of medications. This is an exciting opportunity within a dynamic, collaborative, national organization.

ISMP Canada is an independent national not-for-profit agency committed to the advancement of medication safety in all healthcare settings. ISMP Canada is a key partner in the Canadian Medication Incident Reporting and Prevention System (CMIRPS). ISMP Canada works collaboratively with the healthcare community, regulatory agencies and policy makers, provincial, national and international patient safety organizations, the pharmaceutical industry and the public to promote safe medication practices.

Qualifications:

  • Current licensure as a registered nurse or pharmacist with at least 5 years of clinical practice experience

  • Direct experience in a variety of health care settings is preferred

  • An understanding of medication systems

  • Experience related to patient safety initiatives, including medication labelling and packaging

  • Experience with incident review and other analysis skills, such as root cause analysis (RCA) and failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA)

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Ability to synthesize data and information, while demonstrating attention to detail

  • Excellent analytical, organizational and time management skills

  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and meet deadlines

  • Demonstrated initiative and ability to work both independently and as a team member

The successful applicant will:

  • Provide expertise to support several specific labelling and packaging projects with both provincial and national scope

  • Review, analyze , and follow-up on incident reports related to medication labelling and packaging

  • Communicate, collaborate, and provide outreach to various external stakeholders

  • Write reports and other documents as needed

  • Participate in other medication safety-related activities as required

Salary and benefits are competitive. Salary will be commensurate with experience.
