In March, 2010, ISMP Canada launched a new consumer reporting and learning website, www.SafeMedicationUse.ca. The website provides a way for consumers to report medication incidents to ISMP Canada and provides information on steps consumers can take to reduce the chances of medication incidents. Early results indicate that consumers are willing to report medication incidents, and that these reports provide useful information that can be used to identify potential solutions to enhance the safety of the medication use system.

This one hour webinar will highlight early results from www.SafeMedicationUse.ca – a new component of the Canadian Medication Incident Reporting and Prevention System (CMIRPS).

Learning Objectives:

At the conclusion of this webinar, participants will be able to:

  • Discuss the advantages of including consumers in the reporting and prevention of medication incidents,
  • Discuss how incidents reported by consumers differ from incidents reported by health professionals, and
  • Identify tangible ways that consumers and patients can be included in efforts to enhance the safety of the medication use system.

Audience: Consumers and patient safety advocates, senior healthcare leaders, patient safety officers, risk managers, community pharmacists, hospital pharmacists, nurses and physicians.
