February 8, 2016: Update on Health Canada's Action to Improve Acetaminophen Safety

Health Canada is continuing efforts to improve acetaminophen safety and minimize the risk of liver damage. A Steering Committee of stakeholders, co-chaired by Health Canada and ISMP Canada, has initiated a collaborative educational approach to remind consumers about safe use of acetaminophen. A social media campaign designed to educate consumers on safe use of acetaminophen was launched on January 20, 2015, with initial content focused on a theme of "Double Check, Don't Double Up". ISMP Canada calls on stakeholder groups, health professionals and consumers to share and re-Tweet this information, which can be found by following the Healthy Canadians Facebook and Twitter accounts.

For additional information on safe use of acetaminophen and Health Canada's efforts to improve acetaminophen safety, visit Health Canada's acetaminophen page. Additional information on acetaminophen safety is also available on ISMP Canada's consumer website, SafeMedicationUse.ca under Spotlight on Acetaminophen. We also encourage stakeholders to follow and share ISMP Canada's social media postings on @SafeMedUse, @ISMPCanada and ISMP Canada's Facebook page.
