Many pediatric prescriptions are considered off label because the medications have not been reviewed and approved by Health Canada for pediatric use. When a medication prescribed for a pediatric patient is not commercially available in a suitable formulation, the pharmacy may need to compound the medication, or the caregiver may need to manipulate an adult product.
