Background

The Canadian Institute for Health Research (CIHR) defines knowledge translation (KT) as a “dynamic and iterative process that includes synthesis, dissemination, exchange and ethically–sound application of knowledge to improve the health of Canadians, provide more effective health services and products and strengthen the health care system.”

The concept of KT recognizes the gap between research and practice and aims to ensure that evidence–based best practices reach the patient and improve health outcomes. KT is a key component of many research grants and is an important consideration for researchers and healthcare professionals alike.
